I just didn't get into this book at all and that makes me sad. I always try to pick books I think I will like or love and I hate giving anything under three stars, but that's life.

Tom and Abby's little girl of twelve years old goes missing one day when she is taking her dog Frosty for a walk at the park. First off, who in the hell lets their kids go off on their own!



After four years Abby wants to put up a headstone and have a memorial for Caitlin. I understand parents wanting to have a final resting place, but after four years I don't see how you can do that. We come to find out that good ole Abby is spending too much time with Pastor Chris. They seem to have more going on than what it seems and I don't like her character at all! From the very beginning when she had Tom take Caitlin's dog Frosty to the pound because SHE wants to start over. He doesn't want to take the dog but the dumbass does, he did go back and try to get Frosty but they had already adopted the dog out.

Then she decides she wants to get a divorce and start over and start teaching again.. and good ole Pastor Chris is going to let her stay in some temporary housing. Right..... Well Tom is just devastated. He doesn't want the memorial to Caitlin either, but nothing he wants happens. He tells Abby he could have kept the dog that he loved. Her answer to that was I wanted it done for you so you could move on! BITCH! He says he looks at Frosty and remembers Caitlin, not wants to forget her!

Anyhoo... a while later they find someone that gives information on a man that they think is the kidnapper. Well, it was and some stuff happens.. blah blah..

Then they find Caitlin roaming around the cemetery! The police go over her and try to get answers but she's sixteen and not the same person, of course. She's foul mouthed and acts all hateful toward her parents. And.. she's still in love with her capture and wants to be with him... I feel so bad for these kids or anyone like that :(



The only thing I like about the book is the end when Caitlin and her father are walking at the park and they find Frosty :) An older couple adopted Frosty but could see who he loved. It brought the sullen teenager back to that sweet little girl, if only for a little bit.

Sooo, I wasn't sure how I felt about this book in the beginning. It started out slow for me, but it finally picked up and I enjoyed it quite a bit.

The book starts out with Emily's best friend Sloane just disappearing, her house was still there, but her and her parents were just gone. And.. Sloane left her a letter with thirteen things on it she wanted Em to do and then find her. What the....



Some of the things on this list terrify Emily and I don't blame her, but she happens to get them all done and in the mean time, she finds some wonderful friends along the way.

I fell in love with Frank Porter, he is such a nice guy and I'm glad Emily got to meet him..etc. She always thought Frank was too popular to be her friend or anything else for that matter, but it just goes to show.. you can't always just a book....

She actually talks to Frank when she tries to do the first thing on the list, apple picking at night. All of the kids go out to the Orchard at night to party etc, and of course there are apples. This is where Em first talks to Frank and they become friends. In the middle of all this, she forgets about the apple, but decides to go back out in the middle of the night when no one is there and get one.



There are some strange things on the list but they all get done in some shape or form. One of the things is to go into the ice cream parlor and ask for Mona. Em finds out that Sloane got her a job there...strange.



All the while Em and Frank are becoming better friends and he asks Em if he would teach him to run..as in cross country. She decides she would do it so they start running a lot. It's sweet.



Em becomes friends with the girl that works next door from the ice cream parlor at the pizza place. Her name is Dawn and she is so sweet. They all become an item of friends and they all help Em with her list. There is Collins, he's Frank's best friend, Em and Dawn. They have fun together and when they all go skinny dipping and all freak out was great!



Em has to get over her fear of horse back riding, which takes a few failed attempts.




There are a few other fun things like going to the drive-in. I love the drive-in!



I'm not going to give out any more spoilers, although those weren't really spoilers, they were just little bits of this and that. There is a whole story line in this big book.

In the end it all comes together and that which was lost, was found.....

WHY DO FEEL GOOD BOOKS HAVE TO MAKE ME CRY!



Kara Larson is a vert prestigious Financial Advisor, she also has a little girl named Nadia. Kara is a single parent of Nadia who is almost 2 years-old, her father Steve bailed when he found out Kara was pregnant. The jerk!!



Kara decides to take a CPR course for babies and toddlers, this is where she meets the beautiful Reid Bennett. He's a FDNY paramedic and hot to boot :)



Reid likes how Kara handles herself in the class....until....later when they are faced a few times with some problems that arise with Kara and Nadia. Reid thinks Kara is not a good mom. But there is a reason for this, Reid lost his little girl Erin, she died and his wife Lynn left him. I won't say any more.

But Reid and Kara keep running into each other. It seems they always meet at the 911 Memorial as Kara's mother died on that day and Reid's brother. They both go to the little park to talk to their family members that have passed :(



Finally, Reid sees the error of his ways in blaming Kara for some things that have happened to Nadia. They start to form a bond and this eventually leads to love.

There are some more important things that happen in the book, but I don't want to give away too many spoilers. This is a short, sweet book and I was pleasantly surprised how much I loved the book. I'm always a little weird reading flat out romance, but this was so very good. I look forward to the other books, although I'm not sure they continue on with Kara and Reid or someone else that was in the book..ooops..I didn't read that far into the other ones :)

WHY



Feel good books just make me cry!!!!

James Bowen didn't have the greatest of lives growing up, I'm not sure why, but his parents didn't really notice him and kept putting him into mental institutions. This eventually let to drug abuse and homelessness.

Sometimes something comes into your life and drags you out of the bad stuff.. and that something doesn't have to be in the form of a human being...



It can be in the form of a sweet animal, and in James case it was Bob. He found Bob who was hurt and he got him fixed up. They were friends from then on. Bob helped him get money selling his homeless magazine "The Big Issue" and just being a friend.

It was the sweet stories of kindness that people gave him and Bob at Christmas by purchasing his magazines and giving him money in cards that just made me cry. They helped him get the heat back on for him at Bob at Christmas so they wouldn't freeze in their own flat. They helped James be able to get small gifts for his best friend Bob and Belle.



And then when James went and bought Christmas cards with some of the money to give to the people that always bought his magazines and helped see him rise from a drug addict... I cried some more. James also gave money to some homeless people on the street that were trying to make it doing the same type of thing in the freezing cold.

Bob and James started their own form of Pay It Forward and I thought it was wonderful and so humbling. It made me think so many good things. God Bless everyone out there that has any kind of problem and are getting help in any way shape or form.

Genevieve (Gen) Drake is a really cool, snarky character that I liked right off the bat. She is funny, she works for her dad at his Karate dojo and she's a Vessel... a what? Yeah, seems like when you turn a certain age you might just be a Vessel. They tend to have certain gifts but I changed my mind on telling you what they are, you will just have to read the book! :) Anyway, I love her snark in the book. 


Carol giggled. I wanted to slap the blonde right off her. Wouldn't take much since she dyed it like once a week.

Gen is out with her best friend and roommate Mindy at a club to celebrate Gen's b-day. She comes across some freak who tries to kill her and then tall dark and bad-ass Jude Delacroix (Demon Hunter) takes said person out. And not on a date!

Over some time Jude explains to Gen what she is and there is so much to what she is that it takes quite some time to explain it all with the help from some others, Kat and St. George, but that's later on. Jude starts training her along with Kat on how to use her powers.

Back tracking a little, the first time Gen got to see Jude in all of this glory was when she closed down the dojo for the night and got jumped by some demons, it seems a demon prince, Dante, wants her for his own. I'm not telling you why either.. anyhoo.. so Gen leaves the dojo and this is her take on Jude in action :)

A sudden high-pitched scream drew our attention. Behind him, there was Jude, in all of his masculine glory, holding a long sword thrust deep into the chest of Pit-Bull boy. Wait, a sword? What century was I in?

I am in love with Jude and so is Gen after a bit. He rides a motorcycle or whatever he wants really and he is yummy!



They all have to try to keep Gen safe and fight the jerk demon that wants to take her. It seems that Gen is a very strong Vessel and doesn't need as much help as one would think after she starts learning.

I can't wait to read more about these two and their love, it's a burning love and they need to get on with it :) I could feel the love and um.. stuff lifting right off the pages!



This is the second book I have read by this author and I like her writing style so it's not going to be the last that's for sure! Fin....

Okay, where do I begin :) So you can read from the blurb that Cash hires Abby as an escort to get some revenge on his uncle. Abby isn't really an escort she just needs money because she's in way over her head and in debt trying to restore her grandmother's home so she can live there.

But Cash adds another proposition to their proposal that she can't turn down, it's a ton of money that will pay off everything and then some. So.... Abby goes a long with this even though she is terrified... at first anyway :)

Right from the start Cash is calling her and telling her what she's going to do for that day or that night. Eventually all of that leads to....


One day when he comes to pick up Abby, her nosy next door neighbor Mrs. Truman comes over and gives him the third degree and later on invites them and Abby's best friend Jenny and her husband to dinner. They are mortified as she is set in her ways and seems crazy as a loon. I didn't like her at first, but then after that night when they all had dinner with her, I fell in love. She's freaking funny as hell.



Upon entering Mrs. Truman's house the night of her party.

"Take off your coats. Give me that wine," she ordered then, for some demented reason, she shouted, "Marco!"
When everyone stood around waiting and nothing happened for a few moments, Jenny leaned toward Abby and asked under her breath, "Are we supposed to say "Polo?"
Abby felt a hysterical giggle start welling up inside her that she managed to tamp down when a young, dark-headed man wearing a white shirt and black trousers appeared.

And of course when Abby and Cash walk back over to her house there is more of this.



Sooo, moving on. Cash takes Abby to visit his relatives at Penmort Castle. This castle is his by right, but some stuff happened that I can't tell you and his uncle, wife and her kids live there. He hates his uncle and all for good reason, but Cash has a plan in place to take over the castle and live there.

There is a story about Penmort Castle. There is an evil spirit named Vivianna Wainwright that killed herself and cursed the place. She kills any woman that comes to the castle that is a true love of the master of the home. It's funny how she never killed Cash's aunt Nicola.. hmmmm....



While they are at the castle, Abby is attacked by Vivianna in the bathroom. The first attempt on Abby's life.

Anyway.. more of this ensues...



Abby tells Jenny about the ghost who in turn tells so and so and so on down the line. Before you know it, there is a whole crew involved in getting rid of the ghost, a witch named Cassandra, a lovely Scottish man who's name I forgot since I didn't write it down, and two of Cash's cousins.

I enjoyed their little talk on the different ways to get rid of a spirit because the author mentions one of my favorite shows in the book, Supernatural! :)

"The first, you find it's mortal remains and burn them," Cassandra replied. "I've seen that on TV, Abbey told her, and she had. That show with two hot brothers, one sensitive, one wise-cracking, both running around burning bones and shooting spirits with shotguns loaded with salt.



Abby doesn't want to tell Cash because she knows he won't believe her, but after they all go over and attempt the first attack, she has to tell him. I mean she's all bruised up and what not. Annnnnnnd, he doesn't believe her.

Finallyyyyy, she talks him into believing and they head out to stay the weekend at the castle and work on new things with the ghost.



Cassandra brings in some ghosts of the families to help them in this battle, which is sweet and sad. She also enlists Abby's cat Zee against Abby's wishes, but he's a huge help and a cutie to boot :)



There is a big show down with the humans and ghosts and they all win, but I won't tell you how they did it or who all was there to help. Some other things were uncovered and settled as well.



Even though I wanted to smack Abby and Cash many times I really did enjoy this book. I loved all of the characters but the one old uncle. They were all well played out in the story, even if you wanted to smack them too, but I digress :)

I'm so glad my crazy GR friends turned me on to this book :) I might not should have used those exact terms but still :) I'm very happen with it and look forward to more of this authors work!

How do I even begin to review this wonderful book. I'm going to try my best without giving too many spoilers

This book moved me, touched my heart and made me sad on so many levels. The tales the author weaves of these people and their lives, how they all inter-connect is just beautiful. Beautifully sad....

SIDE A

FIRST STORY: THE LEOPARD



This is where the story begins. Roman Markin - Department of Party Propaganda and Agitation - Censors Paintings.

Roman wanted to be an artist, not an artist who censored art, but life is what it is...

He had a brother Vaska, who went to prison for religious radicalism. Roman visited Vaska's wife and son to tell the wife to get rid of anything with Vaska's picture etc. He also told the son, Vladimir his father is painted into the background. And if you can't figure that out, Roman painted little pictures of his brother at different ages into the paintings he had to censor.

Unfortunately, Roman was charged for being involved with a dancer in connection with a polish spy ring. None of this was true and it was horrible to read how they made him accept this charge and the things they did to him.

SECOND STORY: GRANDDAUGHTERS

This is the story of the granddaughters who are related to the..supposed.. Polish Spy. Galina takes after her grandmother and becomes a dancer and later an actress.



Galina falls in love with a boy named Kolya, they were to be married and have a child. Things didn't happen the way they were intended. Kolya went to war and never made it home.

THIRD STORY: THE GROZNY TOURIST BUREAU

Ruslan is a limo driver turned head of The Grozny Tourist Bureau. He takes people on a tour of the little museum of old paintings that survived a bombing. Nadya is his girlfriend and she is blind. He is trying to find a way to get a large amount of money to pay for her surgery to see again. It seems like an impossible thing.

Galina and her rich husband make an appearance at the little museum and Galina wants one of the paintings. It's so very important to her, but I can't tell you why. I just have to say when you do find out, it makes you cry... at least it made me cry.

Ruslan didn't want to sell the painting, but with someone other persons sorrow, comes another persons happiness.....

FOUR STORY: A PRISONER OF THE CAUCASUS

This story tells of what happened to Kolya and his partner when they were in the military. It was so sad and so bittersweet. It is filled with connections to everyone else.

INTERMISSION: THE TSAR OF LOVE AND TECHNO

This tells the story of Alexi, who was Kolya's brother. He visits with Galina for a bit and then it takes us back to when the boys were young. Alexi tells of his father and how he had a science museum of strange things. I will leave that to the imagination. It is a wonderful story as well.

SIDE B

FIRST STORY: WOLF OF WHITE FOREST



This is the story of Vera. She tries to get her daughter in a marriage with Kolya, but it just didn't happen. There were some shady things going on that led to a death or so and Kolya leaving for war.

SECOND STORY: PALACE OF THE PEOPLE

This story is about Vladimir, remember him? He was the little boy his uncle came to see in the first story. This is about his life growing up.

THIRD STORY: A TEMPORARY EXHIBITION
 

This tells the story of Nadya's surgery. Also Ruslan has become a deputy minister. Nayda has a gallery she takes Vladimir and his son through. He gets to see something so heartfelt and wonderful in his old age. This really brought tears to my eyes!

THE END: OUTER SPACE



I have my own opinion on this one, but I'm not sure it's correct. I will leave that up others to decide and maybe tell me :)

This book is so wonderfully told, I really wanted to tell you everything about all of the stories, the way they connected, what happened to the people, the horrible atrocities, but you need to read the book for yourself if this is the kind of book you think you would like. I loved it.

Scattered throughout the book are colorful fairies that also mark some of the characters, artifacts, and creatures that will be featured in the upcoming sequel series, Dragonwatch.

5 STARS 

I loved the Fablehaven series! I read them years ago and they look beautiful on my shelf to this day. I want to re-read them now after reading this book! I can't wait to get my hands on the actual book.

The illustrations are beautiful and let me tell you, I was taken back to the world just reading about all of the different creatures that I remembered as the book went over them. The book also talks about the different gadgets, potions, places, etc of the book.

If you have never read the Fablehaven series and you like books filled with monsters and all kinds of goodies, you must read them! It doesn't matter how old you are, they are so awesome and this book is too!
