I was hoping this book was going to be better than it was but it was okay.



I was so interested in this book because I love Hayao Miyazaki and his movies, one being Castle In The Sky (although my all time favorite is Spirited Away) and I thought maybe this was going to be a cool adventure what with all of these continents being in the sky.



I found the actual continent part very boring. The main character Kali learns of a rebellion and tries to tell her father who is like the King of Ashra, but she gets um... lets just say she falls to the Earth below to keep out the spoiler.

The Earth isn't supposed to have any humans on it, only monsters. But. There are a lot of things that they were told that are not true. Some really bad things. Kali finds the monsters all right, there are some really weird ones on Earth. I can't even begin to go into some of them, but there are dragons too.



Luckily Kali meets Griffin who is a monster hunter. I mean that's about all you can be down on Earth since there are tons of monsters always trying to eat you! Kali finds out some things that she refuses to believe about her world above. In the end she has to own up to it and tries to help.

I loved the character of Griffin and I thought Kali was a good character after she got out of lala land, or rather fell out of la la land. I liked the side characters of Aliyah and Sayra, they were very kind to Kali and were pretty much monster hunters too. There were other humans here and there in different hide outs as well.

Griffin takes Kali to the mountain to see if one of the sky ships will see her to take her back home. They do and all kinds of stuff hits the fan and people and monsters and what not die.

I think I went into the book with high expectations and got myself let down. I still think it's okay because I love the idea and some of the characters, but there seemed to be something missing.

I really hope many more readers can love this more than me ♥

I can't believe this book! And the significance of the words "OMG" written in the sand has to do with both my reaction and something in the book that I'm not going to tell you!




Headlights glint on wet tarmac, the dazzle blinding them every few seconds. Waiting for a break in the traffic they duck across the busy road, and she tightens her grip on the small hand inside the soft woollen glove, so he has to run to keep up. Sodden leaves cling to the railings, their bright colours darkening to a dull brown.
 

People, if you have not read this book and you are planning on it! READ IT! And don't put it down even if it gets a little bland at one point. This book takes a twist that blew me away! There is nothing like a book that will do that and Clare Mackintosh did that with this book! When all of the pieces fit together you are left sitting.. staring.. thinking, how, what.. did she really just do that? Did she twist that book so freaking much that it resembles a pretzel?

I'm NOT giving out a spoiler, not even a tiny one, because this is one of those books you need to find out for yourself. I was actually wondering after the first little bit why the book had such high reviews and then it smacks you right in the face!

After a tragedy occurs in Jenna Gray's life, she leaves town and tries to start up a new life. But you can never leave the past behind, it hurts, it haunts, it finds you.

Oh dear Lord, I have to stop here before I give something away. I so want to tell all of you every little thing so you can have the OMG moment with me!

This book has some funny moments but I have to say the bedbug portion left me very disturbed! 0_0



This book is told by Anna Drezen and Todd Dakotah Briscoe who both worked as Concierge. The things people said to them or asked them was hilarious and crazy!

GUEST: I need a salon appointment. Wash and blow Saturday at 12. (Concierge makes appointment)

CONCIERGE: All right. You are confirmed for a wash and blow at Bon-Bon Salon for Saturday at noon. (Guest rolls her eyes)

CONCIERGE: Is that all right?

GUEST: Well, I'm just very dubious about the quality of a salon that actually has space at 12 on a Saturday. Is there another one you recommend?

CONCIERGE: So you want me to recommend a salon that won't have space at the time you're requesting?

GUEST: Yeah. Let's try that.

Or...

GUEST: What floor is my on?

CONCIERGE: Which floor are you on?

GUEST: 5

CONCIERGE: The 5th floor.

GUEST: Great. Thanks!

These people are crazy :-) There are things like this through-out the book along with lists of tips and random stuff about people, places and things. I think one of my favorite is about a woman named Princess that lives in one of the hotels. She's old and seems like she's off her rocker. But she's funny.

I liked some of the reviews of hotels. I have never read any kind of stuff like that as I don't travel any more anyway, but they were fun to read.



All in all it's a cute funny little book!

Okay this was an ARC when I got it but it's been out for awhile now so I can't put in any of the awesome excerpts I wanted to use. This book was really good and it cracked me up and got me all hot and bothered because you know.... Best friends being hot models and vamps coming to town.





I have to admit when I first started reading the prologue I thought, damn lets get right into it. Then I realized she was writing a book. Lol <---Let me explain. Nora Falcon is only seventeen, SEVENTEEN and she's a freaking best selling author of vamp books. (In my dreams, to be young and a best selling author) Anyhoo, she goes to The Nightshade Academy and she shares a room with her best friend Abby who stars in B-grade zombie movies. How cool =) Oh and Nora has a crush on her other best friend, Wyatt who is a model of all things. All of the kids in the school are in the big leagues!

So one night at Nora's book signing she meets this hot guy named Reece Rothchild. He's all yummy and what not and wants Nora to take him around the school. I won't go into how he knows that.

You all know where this is going right? SPOILERS ↓

Roth is a vampire and he's all sweet to Nora for about 6 minutes and then he goes all bat sh•t vampire and tells her he wants her fifth book to be written the way he says or all her friends will die. Not so Mr. Nice! I thought she was going to have to write everything he said, but no he really just wanted her to put a code in the book for some other vamps and she could write it the way she wanted.

Needless to say the book went off the charts, Nora got to meet some old arse vamps (one of which loved her books) and Nora, Abby and Wyatt are now vamps due to some stuff that went down with Reece. But the good thing is that Nora and Wyatt are together! I was hoping Reece was going to be a sweep you off your feet vampire but no, he's a jerk. Even his uncle agrees.

And all this time Nora was writing books about vampires and never thought they were real.

I loved the blurb on this book and really wanted to read it. But it wasn't exactly what I thought it was going to be but, it was still an okay book. Don't let that keep you from reading it though because as we know, we all have different opinions.

I thought this was going to be all about vlogging and it's not. Yes, it's what started the whole thing but the book takes off with conspiracy and worse.

Ruby Day is in her twenties and she's a vlogger. She makes tons of money (like many do) by have people sponsor her vlog or giving her free stuff. She's a really kind person on her vlog, but something happened and she was taken.

We have DCI Kate Riley on the scene and her right hand man, Zain. I liked both of their characters because they had pasts, Zain's is pretty messed up, but I'm not saying what happened to him. They are working hard to find out who has Ruby and trying to track the videos that keep getting posted of her... somewhere... out there!

There is Dan, he was her boyfriend in a sense. I can't talk much about that without giving a spoiler. Lets just say he was a fellow vlogger, he talked about video games and got tons of money as well.

Things turned ugly when Ruby, Dan and many others were conned into joining with a company named MINDNET. They ultimately were supposed to do all of your video editing and what not, good stuff, helping you out to get more people to follow you and give you money. Welllllllll....... then they tell you what you can put out there, what you can't, basically you don't have a mind of your own any more. Ruby didn't like this... Ruby found things out.. Ruby disappeared.

There are a lot of different characters in the book and I didn't really care for most of them. They were just good and bad people all around. I liked the book well enough, I just didn't love it. The beginning was awesome and then it was okay from then on out, well until the end when we find out what is going on. This is a crime book that goes all the way to the Congo. The only advice I can give on the book is if your one of the popular vloggers be careful!

This is my June Kindle First pick and it's the first one I have picked since January that I haven't liked. I thought it sounded really good reading a fiction book about Wyatt Earp's common law wife told in her words. And the first few sentences of the book reeled me right in....

EXCERPT

Tombstone kicked my ass and I kicked back. No one expected that of a little Jewish girl from a no-name family.
So just from those words I thought it was going to be a butt kicking chic to rock it out with the Earp's. No. I mean, it could have been that since this is fiction right? No.

The only other part in the book that was worth writing about is a word from Doc Holliday.

EXCERPT

Doc wasted no time. The moment Mollie turned her back, the dentist leaned over toward my chair, his minty breath all that I could inhale, grabbed my wrist in the vice of his long fingers, and focused those intense eyes on mine. He said in a low and threatening voice: "If you mess with Wyatt, Miss Josephine, you will answer to me. As a dentist, I have the power to rearrange those pearly teeth in your mouth."

I didn't like Josephine's character. She came to Tombstone to marry a law man named Johnny and he was a crook and a bad man. He was just using her the whole time and she was too stupid to see it. She has her father wire her a good amount of money to build the house that was promised to her because her no account fiance only started the thing and then quit. He never intended to marry her and she was too stupid to see it. Until she walked in on him and another lady. She then goes on over to the brothel and was going to work there instead of going home to her parents. Hello? But Wyatt saves her. It's said in real life that she did work in a brothel and that is where she met Johnny but I don't know that for sure.

She liked handsome Wyatt right off the bat when she met saw him. She flirted with him when Johnny wasn't around. She flirted with a few men. The book dragged so much, I was waiting for something exciting to happen. Yeah, there was a fight out but it just didn't ... I can't even ... it's not worth mentioning.

After Josephine is with Wyatt and all of the stuff hits the fan with the bad buys including her ex Johnny (who was the sheriff) she finally goes home to her family. And eventually Wyatt comes and gets her.

There is like a whole big section of her getting her pictures taking by a lady named Mollie that Wyatt sent her too. It was pointless and boring with the exception of Doc being a boarder there and hanging around, but even he couldn't spice it up but for that one part.

I love the idea of what the author was trying to do but this book just wasn't for me. I hope to find something similar. There seems to be a lot of mixed reviews on the book so you may love it and you may not. That is for you to decide!

My 2 stars are for the ideal of the book, it's a very good one!

I spent over 12 hours today finishing this book. 1037 pages! 1. Because I wanted to know what was going to happen! 2. I have no sort of life so I can do this from time to time.



I can not believe it took me so long to read this book! I didn't think it would be my kind of book and I have never watched the movie <---I did order the blu-ray on Amazon today because I have to see it soon! I must say that GOODREADS has been a blessing and a curse in this department. I have broadened my horizons since being on GOODREADS from reading books my friends are reading or have read and this is one of them. I would have missed out on this book!

This book has so many feels for me:
Disgust
Sadness
Rage
Shock

I invested so much into so many characters. So many characters that died, that I loved... ones that didn't even have much of a role in the story, I loved them. I thought this was just a love story around the war, but it's so much more. Dear God, Margaret Mitchell knew how to write a book about it all. No holds barred!

I have to make a small mention that I was born in Tennessee and it was so weird reading a bit part about Chattanooga (where I live now) in the book. I guess the biggest part was reading about the battle at Chickamauga, GA. I live 20 minutes from the Chickamauga Battlefield in Ga and used to hike it for many years with my dog and my father until things in my life went wrong. I have to say it's a most beautiful place with all of the land, wildlife, monuments, store, a lot of things. It's a lot nicer now that I would think back then during the war.

I had this love/hate relationship with Scarlett. I thought she was a spoiled, selfish person and the way she treated people and her own children were appalling. I loved that she was a crude business woman and just got it done. One of her slaves named Pork (who I loved) told her if she was as nice to white people as she was to black folk that the world might like her. But Scarlett didn't care, she said what she wanted and did what she wanted.

She didn't want to take care of Melanie when the soldiers were coming. She hated Melanie because she was married to Ashley, the man she always wanted. It was off the rails with all of that with him. Scarlet jumped right on the crazy train with that one and it cost her in the end. But Scarlet stayed with Melanie when she had her baby and got her to safety at Scarlett's home Tara. She took care of everyone in the family.. say what you want.. but -SHE.DID.NOT.LET.THEM.STARVE.

Scarlett hated every moment of taking care of her family. Of worrying about others, but she did it. In a war that was senseless.

Margaret Mitchell told everything like it is, laid it out bare for us to cringe and hate and cry. So many things were so wrong, but it was what it was...

My favorite character was Melanie. She was such a kind soul, but she had her moments when she got her backbone on and told people like it was, and they respected her because of this kindness. She was married to Ashley and I thought she was going to die in childbirth but she lived through it. It wasn't her time yet.

I loved Scarlett's dad a lot - Gerald O'Hara. This is where Scarlett got her temper. But he was a funny man, a good man to his family and people and animals. I loved Mrs. Tarleton, Grandma Fontaine, Mammy, Uncle Peter.. there are so many I can't even name them all and like I said before some were only in the book a few times.

Scarlett married twice and had two children. She didn't care for children and she didn't care for her husbands, she just did what she did to get what she needed.

I had a love/hate relationship with Rhett too. Back in those days it was okay but he was a way older man taking up or trying to take up with a younger girl in Scarlett. But it wasn't just that he just got on my nerves with is comings and goings. I think if he really loved Scarlett for that long he should have told her and wooed her and then maybe things would have turned out differently. I have no idea.



Scarlett did have a child with Rhett as well. Things were all good in the home for a while and then things went way down hill....... It was sad to read, hard to read. I wish the ending was different, but it wasn't. It was an extremely sad ending for two different reasons and I won't give those away. I know most people have probably read the book or watched the movie a million times and already know but still. I cried and cried! :-(

This is a tremendously heartbreaking book, but I'm so, so glad that I read it!

I'm not even sure what to say about this book. I was thinking it was going to be about insects killing everyone! LOL! Yes, the insects are crazy everywhere after the birds disappear and some creepy stuff happen here and there but it's not an insect killing people book. :-)

David Arlen runs away in the night with his daughter Ellie because some peeps at the CDC want to experiment on her to see if she can cure THE DISEASE. That didn't work out so well for David's wife so they are on the run. But there IS something different about Ellie. <---let me backtrack and say, there is a part with an ice cream truck coming into the neighborhood at midnight that totally has me creeped out still. Nothing bad happens, it's just the thought and I can't get it out of my head!



So, moving on... Ellie has some things she can do. Uggg, how do I not give out spoilers! Anyway, she does these things and it kinda freaks her dad out but he still loves her and they are on the run to his brother Tim's place. He's a good guy too. David keeps getting calls on his phone from the doctors to bring her in and stuff. I wanted to smack him because.. uh.. trace the phone... hello! Throw it away.

And through-out the book Ellie is carrying around a box of birds eggs. They tell about it at the end of the book but I think the significance was lost on me. My little brain doesn't work that well. At any rate it's a sweet thing with the eggs.


Anyway, so like if you get this disease you just start wandering around and seeing things and other stuff before you keel over. I kept thinking this was the end of days with plagues and miracles and weird stuff, but then it could all just be the hallucinations. See, there is the twist. I'm sure someone with more smarts will figure it all out.

I did love Ellie's character. She's was a really good little girl and I think she's going to do great things. And I like the fact that good people still know what to do to the evil people. That's all I'm saying.

Here we go again!



Just when they think they are all safe and in a place where there is food and water and showers and bed... nope, doesn't last very long.

They wake up from their little safe place to all kinds of weirdness, dead people hanging from the ceiling, cranks (crazy sick people) trying to get in the windows, Teresa gone and replaced by a boy named Aris, and other stuff.

THEN, they get locked in a room and when they are allowed out all of that stuff is gone and things are changed. Then after a rest and what not, some dude sitting at a desk behind a glass wall shows up. He's just reading like nothing is going on while the boys gorge themselves on food. I mean what the..... Then he starts telling them about the next trial, like the first one wasn't enough.

EXCERPT

"It's simple, really," he said, his tone so matter-of-fact one would think he'd just given them instructions on how to turn on the showers in the bathroom. "There are no guidelines. You have few supplies, and there's nothing to help you along the way. Go through the Flat Trans at the time indicated. Find open air. Go one hundred miles, directly north, to the safe haven. Make it or die."

And some do die. They have to go through more crap like metal balls taking off their heads, freak lightening storms, crazy people with their noses cut off, people trying to kill them, a few more monsters. You know, the run of the mill kind of stuff.

I don't know. I sat here trying to figure out what to rate it and I finally went with 4 stars because I still love most of the characters. Minho is my favorite. I just want to find out what is going on and I guess I will have to wait until the end book. Arggggg.. although WICKED did show up a few times in the book, but they are still secretive and I want to smack them!

TRIGGER WARNING: RAPE - SOME GRAPHIC SCENES

Now let me get this off my chest. In the following picture (for those of us that watch Game of Thrones) we all know what is going to happen. This is my wish for all rapists. Especially those that brutalize horrifically!



This is the story of the brutal rape of Jenny Kramer. The story is told from her psychiatrists point of view, his name is Dr. Alan Forrester.

--->EXCERPT<--- He followed her into the woods behind the house. The ground there was littered with winter debris, dead leaves and twigs that had fallen over the past six months and decayed beneath a blanket of snow. She may have heard him approach. She may have turned and seen him wearing the black wool mask whose fibers were found beneath her nails. As she fell to her knees, what was left of the brittle twigs snapped like old bones and scraped her bare skin. Her face and chest pressed hard into the ground, likely with the outside of his forearm, she would have felt the mist from the sprinklers blowing off the lawn not twenty feet away. Her hair was wet when they found her.

Jenny's parents gave the go ahead on a drug that you can give to a victim to ward off PTSD or other nightmares. They had to make the decision before she went into surgery because if it's not administered right away then it might not take.

But taking this drug means Jenny can't give any information on her attacker. Her parents, or rather her mom, didn't want her to remember the brutal attack so she was given the drug. The drug doesn't keep away feelings that things aren't right and sometimes you start to remember.

After something else happens with Jenny, she starts to see Dr. Alan Forrester. He introduces her to a nice guy from the military named Sean that has been given the drug for PTSD. They both want to remember, they help each other a little. The story isn't focused on these two, it's just in the story as two people that can relate.

The story did get boring for me from time to time when the Dr. is talking about different lives, including his own. This is a great idea, but I was too pumped up to find the killer and take him down!

Dr. Forrester tells the stories of Jenny's parents as he counsels them. He tells stories of inmates he sees and other things. But the main thing is his stories of Jenny, what Jenny says about herself and about what happens when she starts to remember with the help of the doctor.

Even though the Dr. is the one telling the story, the other people in the book talk so don't think it's just him droning on.

For some reason I wanted it to be the one person the author was trying to pinpoint, but it was too obvious. I just think it would have been really whack. Although, when you find out the killer and the situation it's even more creepy. The ending was a wow moment, not an explosion wow, but just a wow did that really happen and OMG what were you thinking.

Unfortunately, I bought this book from Barnes and Noble with a sale they had going. Noooooo, but I have a ton of books I'm going to sale and trade at one of our bookstores so it's all good.

This book is very bizarre and what's even more bizarre is I didn't think I would like it but I did!



The book did remind me of a blend of movies all thrown in together. The Blue Lagoon, The Maze Runner, and Lost. There are just little things from each one that made me think of these movies.


On the island of Nil there are only teens and they just pop out of the air butt-naked. You just wake up any ole place, but it's kinda good if you wake up on your own somewhere first because if you think you feel messed up enough, imagine waking up naked with all of these kids looking down at you!

You get sucked up into one of those heat mirages you see when your walking into a store or some such thing. Charley, she was taking some stuff back to Target and got sucked up there and planted, teleported, thrown out on Nil island.

Also, random animals get thrown out onto Nil as well. It's all good if it's a cow that you can get milk out of but the predators not so much although they mostly left the kids alone. It seems like they had a worse person in their little camp than an animal.

So, Charley is alone for like 11 to 12 days before two of the boys end up on her side of the island and spot her. One of the boys is named Thad and he's the leader of the group. Of course you know Charley and Thad form a love connection but it's not all like that, there ain't no humping in the bushes so get that out of your head!

AND you have to keep up with your days because you only have 365 days to catch a gate and return home or to wherever it takes you. The gate is just some shimmering thing like a little tornado you jump into, but it only comes out at noon every day. So the ones that are closer to death are helped by the others to find one. They have to travel all over to try and get one. That is until Charley starts doing some maps and figuring in her head and can pinpoint where they are going to come out. So run and jump in!



↑Okay that's just some dudes bubble he used with those wands above there but it was the closest I could come to a shimmering tornado thing. :-D

There are also these 4 drawings on different parts of the island. They have a person and some other stuff. They never do find out what those mean in this book, but they hint at some ideas.

I liked the book and to me it was left like it could be just the one book, but there are two more! I wonder what they will find out and I want to know if it's some crazy stuff. It's always some crazy stuff. It better be some crazy stuff! I like crazy. I look forward to the next books.

MY REVIEW:

This is the first book I have read by this author and it won't be the last. I thought this one was pretty good. I didn't even think I would like it at first and I'm not sure why, but I did. There were some parts that got on my nerves here and there but that's the way that goes right?

The idea of Kell being able to walk into different parts of London was totally cool! You have Grey, Red, White and Black <----but no one goes to black for reasons I will not name.

They have some nutzy cuckoo people in White London. A king and queen that are evil incarnate.

Kell goes around and takes messages to other parts of London. He lives in the Red part with the royal family there. But I'm telling you if someone asked me to take a message to the white part, I would tell them to stick it up their arse! Read the book and you will understand. I like Kell's character, he's really nice. He has one black eye though and that would be freak me out just a wee bit at first. Kell also smuggles things for people and collects some cool things. He's a cool magician that travels to these parallel worlds that I find so bizarre and cool at the same time. Well, okay not to the White London... just no!

Some things go down and Kell ends up in Grey London and he meets Lila Bard. I love Lila! She is a pickpocket and pretty much lives her life that way. But she secretly wants to be a pirate and have her own ship!



Lila and Kell becomes friends after a little bit of arguing and what not. I think they are cool together and Lila is very fierce for a human =)

THAT ENDING! ARE YOU FOR REAL? NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! I REFUSE TO BELIEVE IT!



I liked the first book, Lightless, okay enough. But.. this one is really good! If you remember Matthew(Mattie) and Ivan that sneaked on board the ship, Ananke, they are in this book. Mattie's foster sister Constance is in this book too. She is bad to the bone. She is the leader of a revolution to take out the System, which is the government. And they are not nice government. Constance is so totally cool killing bad people, blowing stuff up, just getting it done. She kept reminding me of Sarah Connor in Terminator 2!



The story goes back and forth in different times from when Earth was still there to when Earth wasn't and to the ship Ananke (that is now a sentient being) and Althea is the only human left on board. Althea thinks Ananke is her daughter. It's a whole big thing, you need to read the book.

Some of the stuff I didn't understand but I never totally understand science fiction :-) I can tell you that I got tired of the parts with Ananke and Althea. I really just wanted someone to blow up the ship!

Constance and her fighters go all around the different planets and moon killing System fighters. I mean both sides get killed. Mattie and Ivan are out there somewhere on their own at some point. There are a lot of key players in the book but I don't want to give out too much. I loved just about every one of them accept for the backstabbers and even their characters were done very nicely.

But the ending was NOT what I was expecting, not what I wanted and it's the ending of all endings. Now where is the next book? Surely there is a next book! I guess if there isn't and that is the way it's supposed to end then that is one way to go out with flying colors I guess.

I have to say the cover of this book is beautiful, at least to me! I also think it makes a great background for a thriller book!



HOLY CRAP ON A CRACKER! THIS BOOK ROCKED!

Okay at one point I forgot the blurb and thought I was losing what is left of my mind. The book is going along from the beginning and then all of the sudden (BAM) we are at a part that I don't remember getting to.... Then my little brain catches up that this book is written backwards. You get a little bit in the beginning so you know what's going on and then it starts backtracking. This would seem confusing but it's not! Every little piece starts clicking right into place..click..click...click..

On with the story!

Missing girls had a way of working their way into someone's head. You couldn't help but see them in everyone--how temporary and fragile we might be. One moment here, and the next, nothing more than a photo staring from a storefront.



I can not say enough how much this book is fan-freaking-tastic! I haven't read a thriller this good in a long time. I had some ideas who the killer was but nooooooooooooo.. just no.. I can't even.

Nicolette (Nic) moved away from home in the Smokey Mtns. of North Carolina years ago. She came back once but it's really just been 10 years, her best friend Corinne went missing and some other stuff went down and she had to go. She went to college and was working as a counselor and met a nice man through her neighbor and they ending up being engaged at one point. His name was Everett and he was a very nice lawyer. If he only knew what he stepped into with this town.

So Nic gets a call from her brother Daniel saying he wants her to come home because their dad is getting worse and he wants to sell the house. The one other time she went back they had put him in a home because of Dementia. He's in and out of it and he's starting to say things. Things that make so sense. He keeps saying he saw the girl and Nic is in danger. ?????

So Nic is back and cleaning up the house. She talks to her old high school flame, Tyler and has a weird sort of relationship with her brother Daniel and his wife Laura. And Nic still has some feelings for Tyler and I would say the feeling is mutual but he's dating Annaleise Carter. And guess what? She goes missing. What? So now there are two girls from this town that are missing and the town is stumped.

Meanwhile, Nic's fiance comes to town and helps out by getting the cops to leave Nic's dad alone. He's spouting out things about the missing girl from 10 years ago and other crazy talk. It's not really crazy though is it? There is something locked in that brain of his and people think he was just a drunk that fell into drinking and craziness after his wife died and he only got worse. There are reasons for so many things.

I do not want to say any more because I am afraid of giving out a spoiler. Let me just say this book is not what you think it's going to be! It threw me for a loop. I'm buying it when I can and reading it again. It's so out there that I want to read it over and over. If you see any of the stuff coming in this book before it's laid out for you then you are a genius and kudos to you =)

The characters are complex and wonderful. The whole atmosphere of the book is great. I loved every little thing about the book, with the exception of their being a few heart breaks included. But that's life.

I also know who killed these girls but I'm not telling you!

This book blew me away. I read the blurb for the book, I went to Amazon and read some of the pages where you can read inside. I thought about it. I looked at not so great reviews. I looked at great reviews. I thought it sounded pretty good to me but I wasn't sure I would like it. And then I thought, I'm just going to take a chance on this book because my tastes vary per book. I read pretty much every genre of book and I feel differently about each one. THEN, I finally made my choice to pick this book to read from my choices and I am SO glad I did!

This book is wonderful, I will keep it on my shelves to read again and again. The book goes back and forth from 2015 with Cassie's story and back to 1955 to June's story. Sometimes this can create problems or be a bore, but this was not the case in this book!

Cassie, who is 25-years-old, inherits her grandmothers old mansion called Two Oaks. It's falling apart and Cassie only inherited a little bit of money. Cassie seems to be falling apart along with the house. The house was built in 1895 by June's great uncle, Lemon Gray Neely, and over the years with things that have happened, it was never kept up. True Fact: The author states in the back of the book that Lemon Gray Neely was a real man that built this yellow colored brick mansion in Ohio. But everything else is fictional.

The author's writing style is beautiful. There were so many details about the book that were just perfect to me. The different things going on with the house. How the house seemed to have a mind of it's own. Even when she wrote about Cassie taking pictures (she's an artist) and how she would capture different things. I could picture each thing in my mind. I really loved the picture taking parts because I love the kind of pictures Cassie takes.

As I have said, the house is falling down around Cassie. She has overdue bills coming in that she pays no attention to and phone calls she never answers. She has no family, as her parents died when she was 8 and her grandmother raised her. There are things with her grandmother that have her on this downward spiral as well.

Then one day there is someone incessantly ringing the doorbell and the phone. When she answers she finds a man named Nick on her doorstep. Nick drops a bombshell on Cassie, he tells her that the actor Jack Montgomery left her 37 million dollars, some property, an island. Yeah! Cassie thinks this man is off his rocker. This Jack is supposedly her grandfather. What? And she is apparently kin to his daughters one of which is Tate Montgomery and she's a famous actress. They want Cassie to leave town and and take a DNA test to prove she's not related. But Cassie is not having that, she says they all have to come to Two Oaks and help her try to find out if this is true by other means before she goes through with the DNA test.

So, Tate, Nick and Hank all come to live with Cassie for a bit of time. Hank is Tate's personal assistant and she's run ragged by Tate. Nate is also an assistant and they all seem like they are going to crack, but they find a place of peace with each other for a short amount of time. Cassie is finding out more things about her grandmother than she ever thought she would in their investigations. A little bit later Elda who is Tate's older sister comes to help out.

And while the story is emerging on Cassie's side, we get to read about all that happened with her grandmother June through her side of the story. There are people in both era's that I just love and others I don't like but all of the characters are well balanced and play pivotal parts to the story. During June's time you have her best friend, Lindie. They have a great relationship but there are some wow moments for them. The story of June takes place during the summer Jack and company come to town to film part of a movie. This is a very important time for this little town. But the main secret in both time periods keeps you guessing. Was June with Jack when she was engaged? If so, why did they not stay together? Cassie wonders if her father was the son of June and Jack. There are a few clues thrown in that I didn't get until the end. I felt kind of stupid but that's okay.

When I did come to the end I could not help but have tears in my eyes. There were so many things that happened, so many revelations, secrets, murder... the list goes on and it made for a perfect story. But this is my opinion, you need to read it for yourself.
