MY REVIEW:

5 STARS

Well, this was a fun, creeptastic ride!

I love books that have to do with carnivals or old diners, or just old creepy stuff. I had no idea this was a video game! Lol! I just saw it on overdrive, it sounded good so I picked it up. I can't say anything for the video game but the book was awesome!

 :

When Charlie was young, her father used to own Freddy Fazbear's Pizza where he had animatronics serving people and putting on shows. Charlie's dad built all of these himself. He even build some animatronics for her room. She had Ella the doll, Stanley the unicorn, and Theodore the purple rabbit.

But something went wrong. One of Charlie's little friends was dragged away by the fox with a hook and things just went south from there. Seems there were more kids taken, or where they?

Ten years later, the friends come back to town (with the exception of one family that didn't move) to celebrate the scholarship fund Michael's parents were giving to a student.

The friends got together afterwards to catch up on old times etc. Charlie, John, Jessica, Carlton, Marla and her little brother Jason.

They ended up at the old pizza place. It was going to be turned into a mall but it was just abandoned and the kids found out that they build the mall up around Freddy's. <---like that isn't weird.

 :

They found a way in and saw all of the creepy life size dolls. Freddy the bear, Bonnie the rabbit, Chica the chicken and Foxy the pirate fox with a hook. And there is something really messed up in that place. I really enjoyed the creep factory, it is totally there.

I loved the book so much, but there were a few parts where I was confused. Like there was a part where John and Charlie talk about her early childhood. She's getting these memories of having a brother and stuff like that, well. . . what happened to him? They moved and he wasn't around any more so I'm wondering did something kill him, someone, uh, what? I have an idea but it's never really explained. Also, Charlies mom just takes after after her fathers death and Charlie grows up with her aunt and that's about it. Her mom is still around but not around, but whatever! It was so much creepy fun and some really sad, sad stuff came out in the wash at then end!

They have this paperback on Amazon for like $6 and some change. I think I will be adding it to my collection. =)

Ruin by John Gwynne

The Banished Lands are engulfed in war and chaos. The cunning Queen Rhin has conquered the west and High King Nathair has the cauldron, most powerful of the seven treasures. At his back stands the scheming Calidus and a warband of the Kadoshim, dread demons of the Otherworld. They plan to bring Asroth and his host of the Fallen into the world of flesh, but to do so they need the seven treasures. Nathair has been deceived but now he knows the truth. He has choices to make, choices that will determine the fate of the Banished Lands.

Elsewhere the flame of resistance is growing - Queen Edana finds allies in the swamps of Ardan. Maquin is loose in Tenebral, hunted by Lykos and his corsairs. Here he will witness the birth of a rebellion in Nathair's own realm.

Corban has been swept along by the tide of war. He has suffered, lost loved ones, sought only safety from the darkness. But he will run no more. He has seen the face of evil and he has set his will to fight it. The question is, how? With a disparate band gathered about him - his family, friends, giants, fanatical warriors, an angel and a talking crow he begins the journey to Drassil, the fabled fortress hidden deep in the heart of Forn Forest. For in Drassil lies the spear of Skald, one of the seven treasures, and here it is prophesied that the Bright Star will stand against the Black Sun. @goodreads

MY REVIEW

Damn it all to hell! I knew that ending was going to happen and I am not happy one freaking bit!

You know where that ending can go? ↓

I don't even know what to say in this review! Probably not much. Everyone you love dies! Everything you love dies! THE END!

Why do I torture myself with books like this and Game of Thrones when I know they are going to kill everything you love 50 billion times! I guess because they are so well written. Damn it!

 :

Don't even talk to me right now! I'm soooooo mad. At least I didn't cry! I always cry in books as all of my friends that read my reviews know. I'm in too much of a bad mood to cry! I want to set all of these books on fire, but then I will kill everyone and everything that I love all over again! And of course I will read them again some day because when you read stuff again you catch more than you did the first time around. I do that with movies too. Maybe I'm just not that bright. And I can't do that to a book, I love my books too much for them to get hurt =)

I'm hoping something good is going to happen when my paperback, pre-ordered copy gets here on December 6th, but I highly doubt it!

One star removed from what would have been a five star review for one particular death, or what seems to be a death.

FIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Reader by Traci Chee

Once there was, and one day there will be. This is the beginning of every story.

Sefia lives her life on the run. After her father is viciously murdered, she flees to the forest with her aunt Nin, the only person left she can trust. They survive in the wilderness together, hunting and stealing what they need, forever looking over their shoulders for new threats. But when Nin is kidnapped, Sefia is suddenly on her own, with no way to know who’s taken Nin or where she is. Her only clue is a strange rectangular object that once belonged to her father left behind, something she comes to realize is a book.

Though reading is unheard of in Sefia’s world, she slowly learns, unearthing the book’s closely guarded secrets, which may be the key to Nin’s disappearance and discovering what really happened the day her father was killed. With no time to lose, and the unexpected help of swashbuckling pirates and an enigmatic stranger, Sefia sets out on a dangerous journey to rescue her aunt, using the book as her guide. In the end, she discovers what the book had been trying to tell her all along: Nothing is as it seems, and the end of her story is only the beginning. @goodreads

MY REVIEW:

4 STARS

So, wow - how do I write this review?! ← I tend to ask that a lot. Anyhoo . . .

So this world of Kelanna doesn't have books! What? Who are these people? There is a whole story thing about it, but I got a little confused so don't ask me.

A what? What's a book? Or as someone asked in this story, "What's a buck?"

Sefia has been on the run with her aunt Nin for quite some time. There are people looking for Nin because she's the most notorious thief in the Five Islands, they call her the Locksmith. But . . . there are other reasons she is hunted.

Sefia's mom was killed years ago and then her dad was killed and they had this set up what Sefia was to do if that happened. I feel really bad for Sefia seeing her father dead because the people in this book do some nasty killings.

Sefia took something she found hidden in their home when she made her escape to her aunt Nin. What was that something? A Book! A what?

Later on Nin gets caught by said people looking for her and Sefia has to fend for herself for a few years while hunting these people and hoping to find her aunt still alive and get revenge for her parents. I really like Sefia's character.

One day she is looking at the book. The what? Sorry, I can't help myself. She does something or other and she begins to read. Well, her dad taught her a little about reading back in the day but when she reads, something magical happens.

The book is magical! All books are magical in my world, but I digress. This book actually does something to Sefia and she ends up with some powers but I can't tell you what they are, read the book. The what?

 :

One day in the woods, where Sefia has been living, there are some jerk holes that come along. Sefia is watching them from a tree. They have a crate with them that has holes in it with the sign of the book that Sefia has and she thinks it might be Nin. But when she goes later when they are sleeping to open the crate, it's a boy inside and not Nin.

Sefia saves the boy, he is scrawny and has many scars. She knows he is used in fighting and killing. He ends up staying with her, he can't talk, she teaches him things, she reads to him, she names him Archer, he's deadly, they save each other, they take out others, they are both wonderful, wonderful characters.

The end.

No, just kidding. Seriously, Sefia and Archer go through a lot together to get to Nin and they eventually do and revelations, revelations, revelations!!

And the book is a book within a book. Figure that one out =)

I enjoyed this book very much. I got it from the library Overdrive and it's now on my Amazon wishlist for Christmas. I loved Sefia and Archer so much that I just want to have their story and I am looking forward to the rest of the series/trilogy?

MY REVIEW:

5 STARS

This is a re-read from a long time ago with this beautiful new edition of the book!

 :

It has been so long since I read this book I forgot a lot of things that happened. I only remembered bits and pieces. The sad parts and really happy parts. . . .

Clary did get on my nerves a wee bit, I wonder if she did the first time I read it. But, I still like her for who she is and her love of her family and stuff.

OMG, and the revelations at the end! I can't even. Okay, so I read the first three books in this series then I stopped. Then this year, maybe last year too, anyway, I read The Clockwork Angels trilogy. I know you shouldn't read out of order but still. I'm going to finish this series → soon! But, some of the revelations in this book pertain to The Clockwork Angels trilogy. Don't get me wrong, I haven't read the last three book so I don't know if it will go into more detail BUT someone found out their birth right so to speak and it has to do with Herondale!!! You feeling me? Those that have read all of these will know what I mean. I hope they mention more at the end of this series.

Overall, I obviously loved it as much as the first time around. I mean you CAN still love a book and want to drop kick someone off a roof.

I love all of the characters regardless of their stupidity at times. ♥

Girl In Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow

Charlotte Davis is in pieces. At seventeen she’s already lost more than most people lose in a lifetime. But she’s learned how to forget. The broken glass washes away the sorrow until there is nothing but calm. You don’t have to think about your father and the river. Your best friend, who is gone forever. Or your mother, who has nothing left to give you.
Every new scar hardens Charlie’s heart just a little more, yet it still hurts so much. It hurts enough to not care anymore, which is sometimes what has to happen before you can find your way back from the edge.
A deeply moving portrait of a teenage girl on the verge of losing herself and the journey she must take to survive in her own skin, Kathleen Glasgow’s debut is heartbreakingly real and unflinchingly honest. It’s a story you won’t be able to look away from. @goodreads

 :

LIKE A BABY HARP SEAL, I'M ALL WHITE. MY FOREARMS ARE thickly bandaged, heavy as clubs. My thighs are wrapped tightly, too; white gauze peeks out from the shorts Nurse Ava pulled from the lost and found box behind the nurses' station.

Like an orphan, I came here with no clothes. Like an orphan, I was wrapped in a bedsheet and left on the lawn of Regions Hospital in the freezing sleet and snow, blood seeping through the flowered sheet.

The security guard who found me was bathed in menthol cigarettes and the flat stink of machine coffee. There was a curly forest of white hair inside his nostrils.

He said, "Holy Mother of God, girl, what's been done to you?"

My mother didn't come to claim me.

But: I remember the stars at night. They were like salt against the sky, like someone spilled the shaker against very dark cloth.

That mattered to me, their accidental beauty. The last thing I thought I might see before I died on the cold, wet grass.

 :

 :

There are many people out there with some kind of mental illness, I'm one of them. I have many disorders but I have never been a cutter. One of my friends of many, many years, was a cutter. It's not a pretty thing for anyone. She doesn't do that any more, thank God, but she still does have her mental issues.

I have known a lot of people throughout my life with mental disorders. A lot of them were older people, some have committed suicide, and one was the nicest old man I have ever met - but he had to have an older son live with him and his mom so he wouldn't have an episode and hurt her. He was schizophrenic, had a wonderful job until he retired and like I said, was a wonderful man until the day he died of old age. You don't really know people when your hidden behind the internet. Some have family members or friends with mental disorders and can or can try to relate.

I read these types of books to gain more insight into people with the different disorders. And the author's note is sad, I will add a little excerpt from it at the end.

This book is about Charlie Davis, she's a cutter and she tried to kill herself. She had a bad home life with her mother after her father died and she took to the streets. She was with some really messed up druggies at one point and almost sold to a sex house. She's only seventeen.

Charlie gets put in the mental facility after they release her from the hospital. I felt like she was slowly starting to find a little bit of herself. And then they just release her, I mean can we not focus on taking care of OUR people!

Charlie has friend from her past, Michael, that sends her a bus ticket to come and live in Arizona with him and his mom gives her some money too. She ends up finding a job washing dishes, moves into her own place (not a very nice one) and gets with some older man who is on his own downward spiral. I was afraid for Charlie there for a bit, but she is also an artist and Michael's landlord notices her because she is an artist too, has a studio, teaches, etc.

After a little bit of stupidity I like the way the ending happened and felt like things were finally looking up for Charlie, which she needed so badly.

Some places I felt the book dragged but that's just me. This isn't a book about happy go lucky times and fairies around every corner. It's just an author that is telling a story, an author that seems to know things from a personal perspective.

And remember, don't treat people with mental disorders like they are not real. Don't treat them like they are not lovable, not fun enough, too sad to talk to, blah blah blah. Show some kindness and respect what a person is going through. I'm not saying be their best friend, just don't be a bully or a jerk!

Portions of the Author's Note:

Years ago, I did not want to write this story.
Years ago, on the city bus, making notes for another story I was writing, I glanced up when I felt someone slide into the seat next to me. I planned to give her only the most perfunctory of glances and go back to my notes, but then my breath caught in my throat.
She had skin like mine. Feeling my eyes on her, she hastily slid down her sleeve, cloaking her thin, fresh red scars from view.
I can't tell you how much I wanted to pull up my own sleeves and say, "I'm just like you! Look! You are not alone."
But I didn't. Frankly, I was unnerved by her. After years of wearing long shirts, hiding what I had done to myself, in the hopes that I could "have a life," I found myself reeling back to when I was at the very depths of myself, more alone than I have ever been in my life.
Years ago, I didn't want to write the story of my scars, or the story of being a girl with scars, because it is hard enough being a girl in the world, but try being a girl with scars on your skin in the world.
I let that girl get off the bus without saying a word. And I shouldn't have. I should have let her know that even mired in the very depths of herself, she wasn't alone.
Because she's not.

You are not alone. Charlie Davis's story is the story of over two million young women in the United States. And those young women will grow up, like I did, bearing the truth of our past on our bodies.
I wrote the story of Charlie Davis for the cutters and the burners and the kids on the street who have nowhere safe to sleep. I wrote the story of Charlie Davis for their mothers and fathers and for their friends.
Charlie Davis finds her voice, and her solace, in drawing. I find mine in writing. What's your solace? Do you know? Find it and don't stop doing it, ever. Find your people (because you need to talk), your tribe, your reason to be, and I swear to you, the other side will emerge, slowly but surely. It's not always sunshine and roses over here, and sometimes the dark can get pretty dark, but it's filled with people who understand, and just enough laughter to soften the edges and get you through the next day.

Seven Forges by James A. Moore

Captain Merros Dulver is the first in many lifetimes to find a path beyond the great mountains known as the Seven Forges and encounter, at last, the half-forgotten race who live there. And it would appear that they were expecting him. As he returns home, bringing an entourage of strangers with him, he starts to wonder whether his discovery has been such a good thing. For the gods of this lost race are the gods of war, and their memories of that far-off cataclysm have not faded.

The people of Fellein have live with legends for many centuries. To their far north, the Blasted Lands, a legacy of an ancient time of cataclysm, are vast, desolate and impassable, but that doesn't stop the occasional expedition into their fringes in search of any trace of the ancients who had once lived there... and oft-rumored riches. @goodreads

MY REVIEW:

5 STARS

First off let me just go ahead and put my big ole spoiler banner up!

 :

Now let me get this out of the way; I freaking love Drask Silver Hand and he does have a metal hand that feels like a regular hand. He's one of my new book boyfriends and he's bad to the bone!

He can soothe my itch any day - okay so you get the point!

Captain Merros Dulver (loved this character too) is sent on a mission to try to find what is beyond the Seven Forges. Turns out he finds more than he was thinking he would. Most people don't even come back from this journey through he Blasted Lands, it's just too harsh. Oh and there are these big ole monster things called the pra-moresh that will kill and eat you and your army.

On this little journey Merros and his people are attacked by a bunch of those creatures and it doesn't go well for some. They manage to kill a few with all of them fighting but they see this massive man on a beast reptile thingy that take down a few of them on his own. Merros wants to know who this man is and this is how we meet Drask Silver Hand. The Emperor's Sorcerer sent some women with the group and they make it so Drask and Merros can understand each other as Drask has a different kind of language.

Drask wants to take the group back to the Seven Forges and his home so Merros can meet one of the kings. It all goes well and they send some warriors back with Merros along with one of their kings and of course, Drask.

They meet with the Emperor and they find out this race of people are called the Sa'ba Taalor. They are a sort of grey people and I have already said they are huge, even the women. They are all muscle and kick ass and they live by their gods. They start training when they are little kids on how to forge their own weapons, farming, fighting, etc. They are cool and I love them. Well, I did in this book, who knows what will happen later on.

The Sa'ba Taalor want to be friends with the people of Fellein. They even go and help one of the Emperor's mates down the way that have some other people getting ready to attack them. Drask sends 10 of his people along with Merros to show what they can do. Most of them were women warriors and they basically take out 1000 or more men, although the majority were asleep in their tents. But still, that's some sh*t! And the leader of this little band is named Swech and she's bad to the bone too, they all are, every single one. Swech and Merros get a little something going on, but it's not graphic. The only graphic parts are the blood and guts and bashing of bones, ya know - that stuff =)

He looked at her more closely and saw the bandages on her left arm and on both legs, as well as across her neck. She had received several injuries to his one scratch. Then again, he had only killed one man. Who knew exactly how many she was responsible for?

"Will they go back to their people and say they were attacked?"
"There are none to go anywhere."
"What do you mean?"
"There are no survivors." Her words were calm. Merros felt a deep chill creep through him.
"All of them?"
She reached out and touched the wound on his arm. "You should tend to that. There is always a risk of infection."

"You killed all of them?" He had to ask a second time, had to make sure that he had heard what he thought he'd heard. Madness, it had to be.

"They cannot go home and claim they were attacked by King Marsfel and his people They cannnot go home and report anything to anyone." Her logic was flawless, of course.

Oh, and terrifying. Absolutely terrifying.

So a bunch of other stuff goes down and - wait- I forgot to mention the Sa'ba Taalor can heal themselves with metal. I don't know the whole story behind that yet but it is cool as hell! So the bunch of other stuff goes down and then the Sa'ba Taalor decide they are going home. Merros sees his new friends off and thinks he's going to have a normal day.

 :

Some woman creeps out and kills the Emperor and pushes him out the window. Really? Then some @sshat that's over the whole army thing whatever sends soldiers after the Sa'ba Taalor. Dude, what part of your dumb as hell don't you understand?

Merros finds out and freaks clean out and pretty much tells him he's an idiot and he watched them leave way before the Emperor was killed. And of course nothing goes well for the soldiers that went and attacked them. Hello? I mean is anybody home? NO! And you know what these means . . . a freaking war that doesn't need to be, at least from all I read in the first book. There may be stuff we don't know in the other books. But still!

 :

I hope everything turns out okay in the other books. Now I have to go on Amazon and buy all of them and worry! Damn it all!

Percy Jackson And The Olympians ~ The Lightning Thief ~ Book 1 by Rick Riordan

Percy Jackson is about to be kicked out of boarding school... again. And that's the least of his troubles. Lately, mythological monsters and the gods of Mount Olympus seem to be walking straight out of the pages of Percy's Greek mythology textbook and into his life. And worse, he's angered a few of them. Zeus' master lightning bolt has been stolen, and Percy is the prime suspect.

Now Percy and his friends have just ten days to find and return Zeus' stolen property and bring peace to a warring Mount Olympus. But to succeed on his quest, Percy will have to do more than catch the true thief: he must come to terms with the father who abandoned him; solve the riddle of the Oracle, which warns him of betrayal by a friend; and unravel a treachery more powerful than the gods themselves. @goodreads

MY REVIEW:

4 STARS

I am FINALLY getting around to reading this series.

 :

I thought the movies were okay, I do wish they would remake them and make them better, like the books =)

Poor Percy.

Look, I didn't want to be a half-blood.
If you're reading this because you think you might be one, my advice is: close the book right now. Believe whatever lie your mom or dad told you about your birth, and try to lead a normal life.

Being a half-blood is dangerous. It's scary. Most of the time, it gets you killed in painful, nasty ways.

If you're a normal kid, reading this because you think it's fiction, great. Read on. I envy you for being able to believe that none of this ever happened.

But if you recognize yourself in these pages-if you feel something stirring inside-top reading immediately. You might be one of us. And once you know that, it's only a matter of time before they sense it too, and they'll come for you.

Don't say I didn't warn you.

My name is Percy Jackson.

Most people already know the story of Percy Jackson and how he found out he was a half-blood. How he ended up in a half-blood camp (almost didn't) How he beat a Minotaur and later on, many things.

I thought it was a fun read and I loved all of the different mythical creatures! That was so wicked cool!

Percy makes some good friends in the camp and they go with him to do a quest. He has been blamed for stealing something from Zeus, which he did not, so they have to set out to find who really did it. Other wise there is going to be some knock down drag out with Zeus and Percy's father (Poseidon) and others of course.

So they set out on this quest.

 :

They have to go have a little chat with Hades <-- fun times. They get attacked by many creatures of all shapes and sizes. They also get help from certain creatures and a pink poodle named Gladiola who ran away from home and doesn't want to go back but does so the kids can have some reward money. Wasn't that sweet!

 :

↑ Can you blame little Gladiola? I mean I love the color pink, but NO, JUST NO!

Anyhoo, I did want to smack the group a few times because of stupid things, but who doesn't do those from time to time. *raises hand* I loved when they saved the animals in the old truck they were riding in, Grover is awesome!

I look forward to reading ALL of the other 50 billion books in this ongoing Rick Riordan world! ♥

The Reckoning by Kelley Armstrong

Only two weeks ago, life was all too predictable. But that was before I saw my first ghost. Now along with my supernatural friends Tori, Derek, and Simon, I'm on the run from the Edison Group, which genetically altered us as part of their sinister experiment. We're hiding in a safe house that might not be as safe as it seems. We'll be gone soon anyway, back to rescue those we'd left behind and take out the Edison Group . . . or so we hope.@goodreads

 :

I don't understand why soooo many of my friends loved this book and I just liked it. Sigh. . .

 :

I mean don't get me wrong, I totally love all of the characters in these books. I especially love Derek and Chloe and FINALLY for like two seconds at the end they kiss.

Some things were answered about the supernaturals and just when they thought they might have some help, it's all cray again.

There is a part where one of the ladies was going to mention something about Chloe's pendant changing colors and what it meant but she never got around to it. So, if I missed something and anyone knows, please fill me in on that one.

I feel disgusted that I can like characters but not like the books as much as I thought I would. I love the idea and everything but something just didn't click! What is wrong with me!!!! I think this happened in another book I read lately, loving the characters but the other stuff didn't click. I mean this book is right up my alley with ghosts and supernaturals and stuff. Sigh...

I'm so glad that there are many that love this trilogy because that's what it's all about, finding what's right for you.

The Serpent King by Jeff Zentner

Dill has had to wrestle with vipers his whole life at home, as the only son of a Pentecostal minister who urges him to handle poisonous rattlesnakes, and at school, where he faces down bullies who target him for his father's extreme faith and very public fall from grace.

The only antidote to all this venom is his friendship with fellow outcasts Travis and Lydia. But as they are starting their senior year, Dill feels the coils of his future tightening around him. Dill's only escapes are his music and his secret feelings for Lydia neither of which he is brave enough to share. Graduation feels more like an ending to Dill than a beginning. But even before then, he must cope with another ending one that will rock his life to the core. @goodreads

MY REVIEW:

5 STARS

THIS. FREAKING. BOOK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I loved it sooooooooooooooo much. It broke my freaking heart and gave me joy and broke my heart some more. It's just so wonderful! And the feels in this book are beyond what I can say in my pitiful little review. All I know is if you have been meaning to read this book and have been putting if off, READ IT - you just might find it as wonderful as I did.

The main characters are, Dill, Travis and Lydia and I love them so much! They are some of the most awesome characters I have read in awhile. Dill is the son of the crazy, snake, preacher man. Travis is a fantasy book fanatic whom you can not help but love. He goes around in with his dragon necklace and his staff and is constantly reading his favorite author's books. And Lydia is the one that has the money with a father as a dentist and I think her mom was in real estate. Either way, her parents are wonderful people, the boys parents, not so much.

Dill's preacher father ends up in jail for reasons. And Dill's mom doesn't even want Dill to finish his last year of high school or go to college, because of reasons.

 :

Travis has a really sweet mom but a jerk for a father. He's a drunk and he's always calling Travis names etc.

Lydia runs a very popular blog (<---I wish I did) talking about any and everything. She's going to go to college and make something of herself. The boys, not so much, but they finally came up with their own plan. And poor Dill has a crush on Lydia but don't want to tell her. It all eventually comes out when other things happen. And Lydia made me laugh hysterically many times while reading this book! (thank you, Lydia, I needed that)

Dill is also a brilliant singer/songwriter/guitarist.

As much as I loved these characters and this book, there were some parts that just ripped my heart out and threw it on the floor.

I really have nothing else to say about it without giving out spoilers. I had all of this stuff I wanted to say while reading it and I should have written them all down. I would have like to put my many feels in the book, but then again, I would have had to add spoilers and I don't like to do that unless they are mild. There is nothing much mild to this book.

I hope many more people love this book as much as I did and I cried a few times and laughed a few times. The perfect book, okay . . . not so much the crying because I'm tired of crying in books!

The Faerie Guardian by Rachel Morgan

Enter a hidden world...

Protecting humans from dangerous magical creatures is all in a day’s work for a faerie training to be a guardian. Seventeen-year-old Violet Fairdale knows this better than anyone—she’s about to become the best guardian the Guild has seen in years. That is, until a cute human boy who can somehow see through her faerie glamor follows her into the Fae realm. Now she’s broken Guild Law, a crime that could lead to her expulsion.

The last thing Vi wants to do is spend any more time with the boy who got her into this mess, but the Guild requires that she return Nate to his home and make him forget everything he’s discovered of the Fae realm. Easy, right? Not when you factor in evil faeries, long-lost family members, and inconvenient feelings of the romantic kind. Vi is about to find herself tangled up in a dangerous plot—and it’ll take all her training to get out alive. @goodreads

MY REVIEW:

3 STARS

 :

First off I love the purple cover!!! But the book sort of fell flat for me. Sooooo many people love it and I was loving it in the beginning and then just. . . nothing. I don't know what happened.

I give it three stars for holding my interest in the beginning and I love Violet's character. She's makes a pretty good faerie in training to be a Guardian. She's pretty bad to the bone for being only seventeen but I guess age doesn't really matter in the fae world.

I do have the second book and will read it a little later and see if it doesn't pick up for me. There is nothing worse than liking a character but not loving the book!

My Diary from the Edge of the World by Jodi Lynn Anderson

Told in diary form by an irresistible heroine, this playful and perceptive novel from the New York Times bestselling author of the May Bird trilogy sparkles with science, myth, magic, and the strange beauty of the everyday marvels we sometimes forget to notice.

Spirited, restless Gracie Lockwood has lived in Cliffden, Maine, her whole life. She’s a typical girl in an atypical world: one where sasquatches helped to win the Civil War, where dragons glide over Route 1 on their way south for the winter (sometimes burning down a T.J. Maxx or an Applebee’s along the way), where giants hide in caves near LA and mermaids hunt along the beaches, and where Dark Clouds come for people when they die.

To Gracie it’s all pretty ho-hum…until a Cloud comes looking for her little brother Sam, turning her small-town life upside down. Determined to protect Sam against all odds, her parents pack the family into a used Winnebago and set out on an epic search for a safe place that most people say doesn’t exist: The Extraordinary World. It’s rumored to lie at the ends of the earth, and no one has ever made it there and lived to tell the tale. To reach it, the Lockwoods will have to learn to believe in each other—and to trust that the world holds more possibilities than they’ve ever imagined. @goodreads

MY REVIEW:

5 STARS

I totally loved this middle grade book! I didn't even realize it was a mystical book and I read the blurb before I read it awhile back! My brain!

 :

 :

 :

We have dragons that burn down the T.J. Maxx on their way migrating. We have sasquatch, witches, giants, trolls, fairies, unicorns, pegasus, mermaids, kraken, witches, ghosts and everything else I can't think of!

Not all of these creatures make a big appearance in the book but a few of them do.

This book is written in diary form from Gracie and it's totally awesome! Gracie's little brother Sam is sick and a cloud is coming to take him away. Yeah, you get taken by clouds when it's your time. But Gracie's parents are not ready for that and they decide go in a Winnebago across country to try to get to the Extraordinary World. So, Gracie, her sister, Millie, her mom, dad and a boy from her class named Oliver, set off on this adventure. (Read the book to find out about Oliver)

They make their way to the Smokey Mountains to stay a few days with their dad's mom who is a witch. She is so cool and she has ghosts that hang out in her back yard even though it's against the law. But whatever!

The family end up back on the road once they get the directions from grandma ma to the Extraordinary World. Now only a few people in the world believe of this place. Most people laugh at Gracie's dad because he believes in it. I mean Magellan found out the world was flat and and stuff and he disappeared and that's all I'm saying about that.

Along the way the family ends up with a Sasquatch in their pull along camper. Oliver names her Daisy, she ends up with them for a good bit because they are afraid to let her out and get eaten. Until later . . .

They get help from some pegasus, an angel named Virgil, and some other peeps along the way. They also find a man who has these extraordinary beasts in a lookie loo along the way. Lets just say at one point they are all set free.

They find a pirate that takes them to the end of the world and do they find the Extraordinary World? Well, I know that's for me to know and you to read the book and find out!

I loved this book so much, the characters were awesome. The creatures were awesome, even though some didn't play a large part like I said but still. The sadness of what happened and the idea of a family sticking together to try to stay a family.

I would recommend this to anyone that likes middle grade books and the creature feature!

Valor by John Gwynne

The Banished Lands is torn by war as High King Nathair sweeps the land challenging all who oppose him in his holy crusade. Allied with the manipulative Queen Rhin of Cambren, there are few who can stand against them. But Rhin is playing her own games and has her eyes on a far greater prize... Left for dead, her kin fled and her country overrun with enemies, Cywen has no choice but to try to survive. But any chance of escape is futile once Nathair and his disquieting advisor Calidus realise who she is. They have no intention of letting such a prize from their grasp. For she may be their greatest chance at killing the biggest threat to their power. Meanwhile, the young warrior Corban flees from his conquered homeland with his exiled companions heading for the only place that may offer them sanctuary - Domhain. But to get there they must travel through Cambren avoiding warbands, giants and the vicious wolven of the mountains. And all the while Corban must battle to become the man that everyone believes him to be - the Bright Star and saviour of the Banished Lands. And in the Otherworld dark forces scheme to bring a host of the Fallen into the world of flesh to end the war with the Faithful, once and for all. @goodreads

MY REVIEW:

5 STARS

More people freaking die, but of course that's to be expected right? I didn't cry though! Yay, me!

And of course I loved the book! ♥

This book starts up where the first book leaves off. Corban and the crew are on the run after the fall of Dun Carreg (where they lived). They sail across the water getting into more troubles, meeting up with new people, more deaths, etc. and so forth.

I loved when the Jehar Warriors came! I was so looking forward to reading about them. I hope to read more in the next book, but PLEASE don't kill anyone I like in that group!

Corban's sister Cywen is still stuck in Dun Carreg with the evil people because they thought she was dead, but she was not. That's not a spoiler, if you read the first book you will figure she is not dead either.

Cywen gets to learn about the evil people that are there, that killed her friends and part of her family. But, she just may have a few on her side. She also has her fathers dog, Buddai on her side and Corban's horse, Shield. I just wish she would have tried to sneak away at night. Like I said before, it all turns out for the good though. And Veradis is there, I'm hoping he will see more reason and something will happen with him and Cywen. I love him, for now at least!

The book is really good if you love epic fantasy books. There is still the God-War going on and I don't see it ending any time soon with all of the prophecies.

I'm afraid to pick up the next book and I'm going to wait a little bit because I'm afraid who or what will die next. NOOOOOO!
