The Young Elites by Marie Lu

Adelina Amouteru is a survivor of the blood fever. A decade ago, the deadly illness swept through her nation. Most of the infected perished, while many of the children who survived were left with strange markings. Adelina’s black hair turned silver, her lashes went pale, and now she has only a jagged scar where her left eye once was. Her cruel father believes she is a malfetto, an abomination, ruining their family’s good name and standing in the way of their fortune. But some of the fever’s survivors are rumored to possess more than just scars—they are believed to have mysterious and powerful gifts, and though their identities remain secret, they have come to be called the Young Elites.

Teren Santoro works for the king. As Leader of the Inquisition Axis, it is his job to seek out the Young Elites, to destroy them before they destroy the nation. He believes the Young Elites to be dangerous and vengeful, but it’s Teren who may possess the darkest secret of all.

Enzo Valenciano is a member of the Dagger Society. This secret sect of Young Elites seeks out others like them before the Inquisition Axis can. But when the Daggers find Adelina, they discover someone with powers like they’ve never seen.

Adelina wants to believe Enzo is on her side, and that Teren is the true enemy. But the lives of these three will collide in unexpected ways, as each fights a very different and personal battle. But of one thing they are all certain: Adelina has abilities that shouldn’t belong in this world. A vengeful blackness in her heart. And a desire to destroy all who dare to cross her. @goodreads

MY REVIEW:

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1034845976

First off, I love the cover of this book. I have a thing about book covers and I'm going to mention it from time to time :)

I thought this book was great! Once again there are people in the world that are put to death or shunned because they are different from others. As you can read in the blurb of the book, there was an illness that swept through the land and it either killed you or marked you with abnormalities on your body. These people are feared and killed out of prejudice and stupidity. People think they are bad luck. They call them malfetto. They have supernatural abilities and some do have issues and can't harness these abilities, they need teachers for this, and that would be where the Young Elites come into play. They are trained in their powers and try to help those that are not.

Adelina is one of the malfetto that turns into a Young Elite. She has a really bad childhood with her father hating her for what she became. She has a sister named Violetta that seems to have gotten over the illness and did not become a malfetto. Their mother got the illness as well, but she died as most of the adults did.

Enzo saves her from being killed after she kills her father and is sentenced to death. Enzo is the leader of the Young Elites. He has another secret as well.

There are several different characters in the book that are both good and bad, that I both love and hate.

Adelina goes into training with Enzo and a few of the Elites to try to control her abilities. She has so much rage and darkness inside of her, but you would have to understand her past. I get why she has all of these emotions. She also has only one eye that she had taken from her as a child, but I'm not going to say what they did, lets just say the description in the book will make you cringe a great deal!

The end of the book was sad, but they left it open to, hopefully, make it better in the next book. Either way, I enjoyed the book and I have the next one on pre-order :)
