I Was Here by Gayle Forman

Cody and Meg were inseparable.
Two peas in a pod.
Until . . . they weren’t anymore.

When her best friend Meg drinks a bottle of industrial-strength cleaner alone in a motel room, Cody is understandably shocked and devastated. She and Meg shared everything—so how was there no warning? But when Cody travels to Meg’s college town to pack up the belongings left behind, she discovers that there’s a lot that Meg never told her. About her old roommates, the sort of people Cody never would have met in her dead-end small town in Washington. About Ben McAllister, the boy with a guitar and a sneer, who broke Meg’s heart. And about an encrypted computer file that Cody can’t open—until she does, and suddenly everything Cody thought she knew about her best friend’s death gets thrown into question.

I Was Here is Gayle Forman at her finest, a taut, emotional, and ultimately redemptive story about redefining the meaning of family and finding a way to move forward even in the face of unspeakable loss. @goodreads

MY REVIEW:

https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1357561384

I read a lot of books on mental illnesses, suicide, etc. I read them for my own personal issues and I know so far, that author's do a terrific job at looking up statistics, having family members that are that way, or they could be themselves. And they are great books, very sad, but I usually love them a lot....but... this one didn't do that for me. I'm not sure what it was about this book, but I didn't like it all that much.

The main character is Cody and her best friend Meg kills herself. Cody goes on a search to find out why she did this and why Cody didn't know. There are just some things best friends don't really know about you.

I don't like the relationship that transpired between Cody and Ben. He was a guy in a band that screwed, that's putting it nicely, Meg and didn't want anything else to do with her. He told Cody the sex messed up the friendship. So then Cody goes and does the same thing.. whatever.

Cody finds out Meg had been going on this website that supports suicide victims and telling them how to do it and what not! I mean REALLY! There are some beyond sick people out there. Cody hunts down the main person and cusses them out. Doesn't really solve anything, but there you have it.

I do love some of the people Meg lived with at college. Alice and Harry being my favorite.

There will be many people who love the book and many people who don't, it doesn't really matter. It's just your opinion. Fin
