Crimson Bound by Rosamund Hodge

When Rachelle was fifteen, she was good—apprenticed to her aunt and in training to protect her village from dark magic. But she was also reckless—straying from the forest path in search of a way to free her world from the threat of eternal darkness. After an illicit meeting goes dreadfully wrong, Rachelle is forced to make a terrible choice that binds her to the very evil she had hoped to defeat.

Three years later, Rachelle has given her life to serving the realm, fighting deadly creatures in an effort to atone. When the king orders her to guard his son Armand—the man she hates most—Rachelle forces Armand to help her hunt for the legendary sword that might save their world. Together, they navigate the opulent world of the courtly elite, where beauty and power reign and no one can be trusted. And as they become unexpected allies, they discover far-reaching conspiracies, hidden magic, and a love that may be their undoing. In a palace built on unbelievable wealth and dangerous secrets, can Rachelle discover the truth and stop the fall of endless night?

Inspired by the classic fairy tale Little Red Riding Hood, Crimson Bound is an exhilarating tale of darkness, love, and redemption. @goodreads

MY REVIEW:

 https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/1203532631                   4 STARS

I sat here awhile trying to decide if I liked this book better than Cruel Beauty and I think I do, but the other one was really good too. The thing I love about these two books is the heroines are very strong girls. They are fierce and fight for whatever they believe in, they might make a few stupid mistakes here and there, but who doesn't?

Rachelle happens to be in the forest off the beaten path and trusting in things she shouldn't, this gets her in trouble. She is then bloodbound and becomes a sort of guardian for the King. He decides to put her as a main guard for his son Armand. He was a very strange story of his own. The whole book is strange but in a good way.

Then there is Erec who is friends with Rachelle, and he's not what he seems either. You have a lot of that going around in the book it seems.

All Rachelle wants to do is defeat the Devourer to lift the curse she has on herself and to save the people. I'm not even going to explain all of the spoilers involved with this curse.

This is a book you are just going to have to read for yourself because people have mixed feelings about it. I thought it was really good. I was confused sometimes, but that's just me!
