Game Over by Andrew Klavan

Rick emerged victorious from The Realm twice. Is his luck about to run out?

After multiple trips in and out of The Realm, Rick is becoming a part of it—a direct connection point has formed in his brain. He’s now slipping back and forth in his dreams and has become linked to The Realm and its creator in ways no one anticipated.

That link is an asset in terms of what Kurodar is planning . . . but it’s absolutely detrimental to Rick personally. If he doesn’t destroy Kurodar and The Realm quickly, he’ll be completely absorbed by them. But destroying The Realm will mean destroying Mariel, and Rick is still torn by his love for her and his love for Molly. How can he lose either of them?

Meanwhile, there’s still a traitor in their midst. So even if Rick figures out what he needs to do, actually doing it will be exponentially more difficult. @goodreads

MY REVIEW:

4 STARS

That was a thrill ride. I really liked how the author portrayed the evil terrorist (Kurodar) in this book. This is the third book of the trilogy, but it can be read as a stand alone.

In this book Rick Dial has been into the Realm so many times that it sort of made a connection between him and Kurodar. Now Rick can enter the Realm in his dreams, and he doesn't particularly want to go to sleep, which I can't blame him. In this world not only does Rick have to find a way to take Kurodar out, he has to fight Harpies, Boar Soldiers, and Cobras. Yay! NOT..

 :

Rick also has a couple of friends in the game named Favian and Mariel. He's a little confused about Mariel because he feels like he loves her but he has a real world love named Molly. I won't spoil it and tell you what happens with those three, but it's sad, then sweet :-)

At one point in the book, Kurodar is talking to a man that was sent to kill him... like that's going to happen, but here is something that he says:

--->EXCERPT<---

Kurodar stopped laughing suddenly. Suddenly his tone was dark and seething. "I am at peace with nothing," he said. "I wake up in a rage every morning and go to sleep in a rage every night. Between waking and sleeping, I think of one thing only: vengeance, nothing but vengeance. "I am never at peace."

He's just evil to the core but when finding out where he came from and who his father was, I can see why.

Anyway, so Kurodar is slowly breaking into the world, which means all of the creatures are going to be coming through and cause some bad things to happen.

You know I really liked the characters in this book. I liked Victor-One, he was such a nice person. Of course I liked Rick's little brother and his parents too. Molly and her parents, Favian and Mariel and a few other people. BUT, there's always a but right? Victor-One finds out there is a traitor in their ranks. Why can't people just be good! Lol

Rick goes back in one more time to meet with Kurodar and another really horrific creature, but I'm not telling you what that is or what happens. It's just pretty much a happy ending, although there is a very sad part and we do lose someone. :-(

Overall, I really liked this book and look forward to more from this author.
