The Reaper's Daughter by Anais Torres

Contrary to popular belief, serial killers aren't usually loners. In fact, many of history's most notorious murderers had spouses and children.

Eight-teen-year-old Emma Wolf is haunted by the victims of her father's crimes. She constantly feels like she’ll never be part of this world, but just a spectator watching normal people go about their lives. She couldn't go back and make amends for her father's crimes. She thought she had things figured out: join a few good causes, be a good girl, eat all her vegetables. Never lose control.

So when her aunt finds out she's been invited to join the kid's from her local church for a week-long trip to South Padre Island, she pushes Emma to go. Why else would she - the most socially awkward, fact spewing outcast - spend the first week of summer with a bunch of kids, who she has nothing in common with?

So much for not losing control.@goodreads

MY REVIEW:

4 STARS

 :

All Emma Wolf wanted was to disappear. Wouldn't you if your father was The Oklahoma Reaper?

*When Emma Wolf moved to Nevada to live with her aunt, she just wanted a fresh start, a new place to live her own life. Somewhere people didn't know who she was, what her past was like, or what her father had done. At first if seemed almost impossible that she could ever escape such a shadow. With social media at everyone's finger tips it didn't take much for people to look her up, which is why she found the importance of becoming invisible.*

Emma is just trying to make a new life for herself living with her aunt. She has no friends at school though. Emma thought she had a friend in a boy named Hayden until she overheard him making fun of her. She decides to do good deeds to try to make up for what she feels is bad DNA and to be invisible.

Emma has so many thoughts, trying to figure out how her loving father could be this horrid person. A psycho serial killer. How does this happen? Did he ever really love me? It is really sickening to hear what her father did, what he really was, I would freak clean out as well.

*She'd been raped and mutilated while she was alive by what the police claimed to be a reaping hook. Christy had been the first victim, but she was just the third body found in what spiraled into a nightmare of chaos and horrific murders for the state of Oklahoma. Each one more gutted than the last and he'd gotten better with that reaping hook over time. His last four victims were still unidentified.*

 :

Emma's father killed 25 women. How do you get past that?

Emma's aunt pushed Emma to go on a road trip with some kids from school, one being Hayden. She decided to go. Hayden's father made him ask her to go. There was Emma, Jackie, Alyssa, Hayden, Mitch and Charlie. Some of the kids in the group were still trying to get over their own trauma of being in a car accident where one of their friends died. But I will leave that for you to read.

Emma is the outcast but on this journey she finds herself and she actually finds some friends in people she never expected to find.

I really enjoyed the book and going through different emotions with Emma. I liked most of the characters, I mean you have to have one mean girl and one boy trying to get with all the girls. But sometimes if people open up and give themselves a chance, they find out not everyone is what they seem on the outside.

*I received a print copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.*
