Arena by Holly Jennings

Every week, Kali Ling fights to the death on national TV. She's died hundreds of times. And it never gets easier...

The RAGE tournaments the Virtual Gaming League's elite competition where the best gamers in the world compete in a fight to the digital death. Every kill is broadcast to millions. Every player leads a life of ultimate fame, responsible only for entertaining the masses.

And though their weapons and armor are digital, the pain is real.

Chosen to be the first female captain in RAGE tournament history, Kali Ling is at the top of the world until one of her teammates overdoses. Now she s stuck trying to work with a hostile new teammate who s far more distracting than he should be.

Between internal tensions and external pressures, Kali is on the brink of breaking. To change her life, she ll need to change the game. And the only way to revolutionize an industry as shadowy as the VGL is to fight from the inside @goodreads

I enjoyed this book! I love anything about gaming. I'm more of a watcher than a player though =)

This book is about teams competing in the Rage tournaments. It's a virtual gaming where people are actually fighting each other. You can die many times in the game, but you wake up, train and try to keep yourself on top so you can win. It's like the new thing, digital sports.

All of the crews are big in the public eye and pretty much celebrities. They have big companies that back them, etc.

Kali, Lily, Hannah, Nathan and Derek are a team, but this last match against a new group has brought them down a notch. Then a tragedy happens and they have another player to train, Rooke. I had a crush on him =)

Kali is the leader and it's hard to get them to all work together and we have to see what the end game is going to be.

There are a lot of problems with drug abuse and overdoses in this book. It happens to the gamers just like it would any other person that is a celebrity. But can they make it through all of the hardships and come out on top? Read the book and see.

  2. This is a really interesting topic. It kind of reminds me of The Hunger Games, except these are virtual. Very cool!
