hearts Are Like balloons by Candace Robinson ~ plus Q & A w/ Author

May Falkner’s past two years have been a rough road. When her father suddenly passes away, May needs to find a job to help out her mom and regain some control over her life. Working at the bookstore helps her heal, laugh, and hope again. It also leads her to cross paths with Nico Evitts, who begins as just a co-worker, but becomes so much more

When it all becomes perfect, because there is no perfect, life steps in to prove once again that it all can crash down harder than before. This is a story about finding yourself, love, and the things in life that are still here.

Hearts are like balloons. Sometimes they inflate… Sometimes they deflate… @goodreads

Wow, this book really pulled on my heart strings. I love it so much better than her other book. It was just perfect.

May's father has died. He had cancer and then something even more horrible happens. May and her mom are trying to get through it. May's mom finally goes back to work as an accountant and May gets a job with her best friend, Jessie, at a used bookstore. This is where we meet the wonderful Violet that runs that place for her family. I love her, she's an artist and she has purple hair! I want purple hair!

Violet's brother Nico also works at the bookstore. May and Nico find a bond together and they get along so good.

Every one in this book is wonderful. I love May so much, she's so funny and I feel for her with all she had to go through. This book made me cry, laugh and then cry some more. Poor May, Nico, her friends and family had to go through so much. I don't want to give anything away but this is a tough book. But don't let that stop you because it's so wonderful too. Not everything has to be the end of the world and things are fun and quirky and loving. I love more than anything when I find a book that I fall right in love with when I least expect it. ♥

Hearts really are like balloons. . . . .

GOODREADS REVIEW:

 https://www.goodreads.com/review/show/2046550005

1. Where did you find inspiration for your book?
I have had the Nico/May relationship in my head for years, but I could never form the story line right. When my dad passed last year, it triggered the beginning of the book and helped connect the story together.

2. Did you always want to be a writer of books?
Not until after high school, but I never had time to write anything or didn't know how. I started to stay home when my migraines got worse and with my daughter's seizures. She eventually started school, and her seizures have lessened, so I had decided to finally attempt to write.

3. How did you come up with the title?
I had written the book, and it was untitled. So, when I went back and re-read I had talked about balloons a couple of times in there, so I came up with it from there.

4. If you had to choose, which writer would you consider a mentor?
So, I haven't read a lot of classics. I read mainly YA or NA and have just started really reading over the last four years, so I would have to say Sarah J. Maas. Her books are amazing! Her writing inspires me to hopefully one day write an awesome fantasy that I have always wanted to write!

5. What are your current projects?
I am working on edits for The Bride of Glass which is the final in the duology for Quinsey Wolfe's Glass Vault. Then I plan on writing a New Adult retelling, and a dark fantasy. I don't have constant ideas and most of these ideas I have had for years!

6. Who designed the cover of your book?
Jenny @ Seedlings Design Studio. She is seriously amazing because I don't give her much to work with when I fill out the form!

7. What was the hardest part of writing your book?
Trying not to think this is terrible lol! Also, I am one that wants to get things done in one day, and with a book that just does not happen.

8. Do you recall how your interest in writing originated?
I have never taken a creative writing course or anything like that. So, in high school or college it was all pretty much read this story and write an essay over it or a research paper, etc. There was one time way back in high school when my twelfth grade English teacher had us just write down our thoughts, and I literally realized that day I would love to write something someday.

9. Do you have advice for other writers?
It might be cliche but don't give up. I really have no idea what I'm doing pretty much all the time, but I'm trying.

10. What were your challenges in bringing your book to life?
Making sure the characters seemed real. With Quinsey, it was more of a fun and dark story and wasn't about real life, but this one I still wanted the humor and emotions of real people. To me, contemporary is definitely harder to write!

The author also dedicates this book to her father. It would have been his birthday when the book was published. ♥
