The Heart Between Us by Lindsay Harrel

Megan Jacobs always wished for a different heart. Her entire childhood was spent in and out of hospitals, sitting on the sidelines while her twin sister Crystal played all the sports, got all the guys, and had all the fun. But even a heart transplant three years ago wasn’t enough to propel Megan’s life forward. She’s still working as a library aide in her small Minnesota hometown and living with her parents, dreaming of the adventure she plans to take “once she’s well enough.” Meanwhile, her sister is a successful architect with a handsome husband and the perfect life—or so Megan thinks.

When her heart donor’s parents give Megan their teenage daughter’s journal—complete with an unfulfilled bucket list—Megan connects with the girl she meets between the pages and is inspired to venture out and check off each item. Caleb—a friend from her years in and out of the hospital—reenters her life and pushes her to find the courage to take the leap and begin her journey. She’s thrown for a loop when Crystal offers to join her for reasons of her own, but she welcomes the company and the opportunity to mend their tenuous relationship.

As Megan and Crystal check items off the bucket list, Megan fights the fears that have been instilled in her after a lifetime of illness. She must choose between safety and adventure and learn to embrace the heart she’s been given so that she can finally share it with the people she loves most.@goodreads

*I received a print copy of this book through the Thomas Nelson Publisher.*

I thought this book was so bittersweet. I loved Megan so much. She had to have a heart transplant when she was younger. She met a wonderful boy named Caleb that was getting a heart transplant as well. They talked about how they wanted to travel the world and Megan wanted to be a writer. Caleb went on to make his dreams come true, but Megan stayed in her home town living with her parents. She had a job at the library. She was 32 and not going anywhere because she was scared.

Then she met the parents of the donor, Amanda. They let her see a bucket list of things Amanda wanted to do. Megan has an idea to fulfill Amanda's bucket list which meant she would have to travel to other countries by herself.

"Take a look at the last item on Amanda's bucket list."
Megan flipped the page and saw a few more items. When her eyes hit number twenty-five, her mouth fell open.
25. Give my heart away.

At the last minute Megan's sister Crystal decided to go with her. Crystal was always the perfect one. But now Crystal's marriage is in trouble because she works too much. Her health is also in trouble as well. So Megan and Crystal make this trip together and try to heal old wounds between each other.

I loved the fact these sisters traveled together and the idea that Megan was fulfilling another girls dreams. It made me tear up at times.

Overall, it was a wonderful little book.

Happy Reading!
