The Martian by Andy Weir

Six days ago, astronaut Mark Watney became one of the first people to walk on Mars. Now, he's sure he'll be the first person to die there. After a dust storm nearly kills him & forces his crew to evacuate while thinking him dead, Mark finds himself stranded & completely alone with no way to even signal Earth that he’s alive—& even if he could get word out, his supplies would be gone long before a rescue could arrive. Chances are, though, he won't have time to starve to death. The damaged machinery, unforgiving environment or plain-old "human error" are much more likely to kill him first. But Mark isn't ready to give up yet. Drawing on his ingenuity, his engineering skills—& a relentless, dogged refusal to quit—he steadfastly confronts one seemingly insurmountable obstacle after the next. Will his resourcefulness be enough to overcome the impossible odds against him? @goodreads

MY REVIEW:

This book is freaking hilarious! Wait.... not the part where Mark gets stranded on Mars, but his humor! He had me in stitches!

I could not even imagine what it would be like being stranded on another planet. Well, first, I'm not smart enough to be an astronaut and second, I would not want to go to space....unless it was with Spock, but I digress.

I loved reading about all of the things he did to keep himself alive. Well, I was put off with the poo compost. I had a few gack moments. LOL! Mark's telling of these details were funny and to the point.

I didn't want to read this book for a long time because I didn't think I would understand what he would be talking about with all of the scientific stuff. I was pleasantly surprised that the author wrote this in a way that even I could understand. There was no drooling or dazed looks on my face. I could actually understand what he was trying to do, well for the most part.

I really hope this movie is going to be good. The previews look good, I'm just hoping that Matt Damon can capture the humor that Mark puts out there. If I could quote each funny thing he said in the book, they probably wouldn't let it post as it would be too long! That is what made it for me in this book. Mark didn't let anything get him down, mmmmm...a couple of ranting moments, but he deserved to have those. His snark was great and he's one of those people you could see being friends with, minus the smart brain :)

This was an awesome sci-fi book and I'm so glad I finally read it. I would recommend to all sci-fi fans or anyone that just wants a good novel with a great storyline and a whole lot of funny!
5 Stars
