for America Find True Love?
Maggie Montgomery's long-held wish to see America is finally coming true. She'll visit her beloved brother Rylan and his wife, Colleen, and at the same time, escape Neill Fitzgerald's unwanted attention. In addition, Maggie has a secret! She plans to remain in America to seek her fortune and to hopefully find love. While visiting Irish Meadows, she meets an intriguing man whom she thinks is a stable hand. Only when Rylan demands she stay away from Adam O'Leary does she realize he's Colleen's brother, recently released from prison. Nonetheless, Maggie can't seem to make her heart conform to her brother's request.
Adam O'Leary has never felt worthy of his place in the family. Spending time in jail only reinforces his belief. Now that he's free, Adam hopes to make amends and earn back his family's trust. Falling in love with Maggie Montgomery, however, was never in his plans.
Despite everyone's effort to keep them apart, the two develop a bond nothing can break--but has Adam truly changed, or will the sins of his past prove too much for Maggie to overcome?
MY REVIEW:
4 STARS
This was a nice feel good book, although, there were some
people I wanted to throttle and you all know how I can find someone to
smack some sense into in a book!
Anyhoo, we have Maggie Montgomery that comes over from Ireland with her brother Gabe for the summer to stay with their other brother Rylan and his wife. This is around 1914 and there is trouble brewing in Ireland so their mom wanted them to come over to New York for awhile. She couldn't make the trip at the time due to medical reasons.
Gabe is a fireman over in Ireland and he gets on with a short term job with a fire department in New York. Rylan and his wife Colleen run an orphanage so Maggie is going to help them. But, little do the rest of the family know, Maggie has decided she is not going back to Ireland, she wants to stay and make a life in New York. She has this creepy ex-fiance back in Ireland that wouldn't take no for an answer, the creep even followed her to New York.. so that is an ongoing thing they have to deal with in the book. It's like, can't the creepers just fade away!!!
Colleen's brother Adam gets out of jail around the same time and comes home trying to find work. He is estranged with his father, but I can't tell you why, you have to read the book. I love saying that :-) So instead of staying with his parents and working on the big horse farm or staying with his sister and working at the orphanage because Rylan doesn't want him there, Adam goes and stays with a priest that visited him in jail.
Because of some things that happen, Rylan decides to let Adam work at the orphanage as a handy man, but this gets him closer to Maggie. Her brothers don't like this as Adam has a record. But they are bound to be together in the end so just deal with it people.
Gabe also finds himself a love interest with another family that is going to lead to the next book in the series, at least I'm assuming it is. Gabe is really sweet, well they all are in their own way, but you don't mess with their family as they are all protective.
Adam has the hardest time in the book, I mean some others have to go through some life stuff, but Adam.. poor thing really finds out some stuff that is so sad and he's so down and hard on himself. But Maggie helps to pull him through this and he's very protective of her. He's such a good guy, I want him, or Gabe, they are both sweet and threatening to these bad dudes that won't leave their women alone :-) What is it with these men!!!
--->EXCERPT<---
"Do you know what prison is?
She nodded solemnly. "It's where bad men go."
Bad men. Somehow that label hurt more than being called a criminal. "Not everyone who goes to jail is bad. Some just made a mistake."
"Did you make a mistake, Uncle Adam?"
He held her gaze. "I did. And I went to jail as punishment."
A movement preceded the sudden weight in his lap. Delia's arms wound around his neck, and she pressed a kiss to his bearded cheek.
"You're not a bad man. If you were, I'd be afraid of you."
So sweet :-(
I have to say the two fathers that are in the book are just horrible! I'm glad in the end one of them saw the light and stopped being so terrible. But when something tragic almost happens it makes people open their eyes. Makes you wonder why we don't all open our eyes before then.....
I enjoyed reading this book, I love to read a feel good book from time to time and that cover on the book is just beautiful! I had to say it, even the back cover is beautiful. Yeah, I have a thing with covers, don't judge me. LOL
I hope to get the first and third book in this series. Oh and this is a stand alone book, you know there is a beginning but it doesn't hinder the reading of this book in any way.
Even though the book is centered in New York, all of the talk of Ireland in the book makes me want to read a bunch of books set in Ireland. I love Ireland, even though I have never been :-)
